Pre-Bday: Shin Kushiya

This will be a short photo post to thank my lovely colleagues for getting everyone together and treating me to dinner for my birthday.

It was the first time in my 1.5 years in that company that we actually went out after work for an outing. My colleagues and I are quite close (at least those girls from my dept) but after work we always do our own stuffs. It was nice that we were finally doing something out of work. Thank you girls!

We went to a Japanese restaurant, Shin Kushinya @Vivo City.

They reserved a table a St. James Movida and that was the main reason I wore that top. No party pictures that night because my camera was out of battery. I hope none of them took any of me haha, crazy night. Vodka and me just cannot be friends. But I made it home myself... I am Okay!

Aid Japan though DESIGN

A classmate from polytechnic invited me to join this design clause on facebook organized by a girl from NTU. The event posted to me is "Aid Japan through Design" and the response was pretty good.

A total of 77 designers accepted the invitation including myself. I thought that this might be fun and if it can actually raise funds, why not?

From the organizer:
"So basically my idea is just to have everyone create an illustration/ design for a postcard and we can sell the entire pack for $10-15 (depending on number of participants). This is purely for fund raising so there is no money to be earned, just good karma."

I think I could really use some good karma! LOL^^

"The Deliverables:
A random pack of # postcards (depending on # of contributors)
+ POSSIBLY a sticker sheet compiled elements present in the postcard designs (e.g. if the postcard features a bear, I will extract that bear and plonk it on a sticker sheet along with other extracted postcard designs)

I will create a simple product shot of how the postcards can be used as mini-posters to decorate boring office cubicles (there are 160 of them in my staff room, a third of which are decorated with postcards), and also maybe stick on boring notebook covers.. etc

Postcard specs: 10.5cm x 15cm (standard Zocard size)"

I told some of my friends about me participating in this event and asked them if they would fork out money to buy the packs. All of them said YES, what supportive friends I have! But I told them they will be randomly packed and they might not get my design in the pack and they have second thoughts, funny friends. Haha but ultimately it is not about buying my design, its about recognizing the combined efforts of the local designers and of course to aid the quake relief efforts in Japan.

I saw some tweets saying "those people that keeps trending prayforjapan are not helping them at all" and stuffs like "you are not related to them, stop trying to act Japanese & act as though your hometown is in trouble!"

I feel that everyone have their own thoughts, they might not see things the way I do like I do not understand why are they making such statements or judgments so no point arguing about who's right or wrong. Although the messages are not directed to me but it gave me an interesting idea for my design!

Here you go:

We cannot say we are not related now, can we?

The dateline for the submission was last Friday (25th Mar) and I've send emails and facebook messages to the organizer to check out the current status of this project but she have yet to get back to me so I have no idea what is going to happen next. I'll post up more information soon.

Bye.

Marina Barrage Day 2

Continued from Day 1

1.
The line disappeared halfway into the sky

I helped tend to the big bird kite in the sky while they took a break. I was using most of my strength pulling and reeling in just like battling an adult swordfish in the vast ocean! I was finally forced to reel it all the way back due to major collisions in the air.

2.
We decide to tie the jellyfish to the big bird & let them fly... FAILED

Followed Mr & Mrs Arsenal to the Gunners Lair, Modestos@Elizabeth Hotel for dinner and to catch the Arsenal vs West Brom match. First time to the Gunners Lair gave me culture shock! I was like attending some religious gatherings where they shout out cheers & sing some Arsenal anthem in harmony! EVERYONE of them! Damn hardcore laa~ But I was soon distracted by all the food & drinks...

17.
Look who's excited for the beer, the non-alcoholic kid

Stayed there, chit-chat, gossip, chillax and watch some serious football before calling it a day. I shall not make any comments on the match that night because the rest of the world watching should know hahaha. Alright gonna end it here, thanks again to the group for the fun time! (^^)

Marina Barrage Day

Done with all the photos from the Marina Barrage~ Brought my new toy from the recent IT show for her debut and was quite happy with how the peektures turn out^^

So yes, my friends planned this gathering for my birthday which is soon to come because I cannot meet everyone on the actual day so they got it going first. The weather was actually quite gloomy with showers in the earlier half of the day and it was still pouring when they came to pick me up.

I was already thinking of contingency plans due to the wet weather and it doesn't look good for kite flying at all. BUT when we arrived, although still drizzling a little, we can see some sun. The group decided to go get some kites while waiting for the drizzle to cease.

1.
 Gloomy sky

We stayed inside the kite store for quite some time because there were so many interesting ones. Serene got a big Squirrel kite with Leslie and LQ & MY got a chee-na goldfish one. I looked around for quite a bit and this is what I got together with XJ after much considerations.

2.
Rainbow Jellyfish with LONG tentacles

The staff call it a rainbow squid but it was a jellyfish, ain't it? Anyway I'll call it what I want since we paid for it. We were told by the staff that the rainbow jellyfish is unstable in the air due to its small surface area but we decided to take up the challenge (mainly because I think the long tentacles will look damn nice in the wind).

3.

Kites from dinosaur years ago just need line plus the kite body & its good to go. But now we have to get kite connectors which are sold separately. It is actually a metal paperclip-like hook to "connect" the line to the kite which I think should come together with the line reel when we buy it. It was actually a compulsory item so no choice, we have to get it. wtf.

After getting kites we found a place to set up our base while waiting for Nyy & Moo. Serene brought a tiny mat from Japan which she was very proud of, that was for 3 pax max while we had 6.

4.
Serene's tiny mat from Japan

Serene told me she feel embarrassed sitting on the mat but after looking at the other one they bought from the kite store, I think that I LOVE her mat ALOT!
