Aid Japan though DESIGN

A classmate from polytechnic invited me to join this design clause on facebook organized by a girl from NTU. The event posted to me is "Aid Japan through Design" and the response was pretty good.

A total of 77 designers accepted the invitation including myself. I thought that this might be fun and if it can actually raise funds, why not?

From the organizer:
"So basically my idea is just to have everyone create an illustration/ design for a postcard and we can sell the entire pack for $10-15 (depending on number of participants). This is purely for fund raising so there is no money to be earned, just good karma."

I think I could really use some good karma! LOL^^

"The Deliverables:
A random pack of # postcards (depending on # of contributors)
+ POSSIBLY a sticker sheet compiled elements present in the postcard designs (e.g. if the postcard features a bear, I will extract that bear and plonk it on a sticker sheet along with other extracted postcard designs)

I will create a simple product shot of how the postcards can be used as mini-posters to decorate boring office cubicles (there are 160 of them in my staff room, a third of which are decorated with postcards), and also maybe stick on boring notebook covers.. etc

Postcard specs: 10.5cm x 15cm (standard Zocard size)"

I told some of my friends about me participating in this event and asked them if they would fork out money to buy the packs. All of them said YES, what supportive friends I have! But I told them they will be randomly packed and they might not get my design in the pack and they have second thoughts, funny friends. Haha but ultimately it is not about buying my design, its about recognizing the combined efforts of the local designers and of course to aid the quake relief efforts in Japan.

I saw some tweets saying "those people that keeps trending prayforjapan are not helping them at all" and stuffs like "you are not related to them, stop trying to act Japanese & act as though your hometown is in trouble!"

I feel that everyone have their own thoughts, they might not see things the way I do like I do not understand why are they making such statements or judgments so no point arguing about who's right or wrong. Although the messages are not directed to me but it gave me an interesting idea for my design!

Here you go:

We cannot say we are not related now, can we?

The dateline for the submission was last Friday (25th Mar) and I've send emails and facebook messages to the organizer to check out the current status of this project but she have yet to get back to me so I have no idea what is going to happen next. I'll post up more information soon.

Bye.
